abstract The paper presents the results of research on Ni/Si3N4 composite coatings produced by the brush plating method. The surface topography and morphology, structure, microhardness and the corrosion resistance of Ni and Ni/Si3N4 coatings were investigated. The composite coatings exhibited higher microhardness and corrosion resistance compared to pure nickel coatings. The average grain size decreased with increasing Si3N4 particle content in the plating bath. The study verified the feasibility of producing such coatings and determined the effect of the particle content on the properties of the nickel composite coatings.
